I’ve started collecting price information about the most common pick your own crops to help customers know what to expect, and to help new farmers set competitive prices. Bear with me, the level of detail, such as regional information, and accuracy will improve as I collect more information. It should be obvious (but I guess I better state it), these are all “in-season” prices. In the dead of winter, you won’t find these crops to pick, nor at these prices in a farmstand. And prices tend to go up at the end of the season, too. For example, you’ll get the best price on apple when there is a glut of them in September, when they are being harvested all over North America. And certainly, there are outlyers; these represent the most commonly reported price. Somewhere out there, there will be a farm with a higher or lower price for everything. Eventually, I hope to be able to provide local pricing information for each crop. Help me build up the data by reporting the PYO and already picked prices at the farms you go to!
