Bvd Vaccine For Cattle

Bovilis ® BVD manufactured by MSD Animal Health is an inactivated (killed) vaccine that is licensed for the active immunisation of cattle against Bovine Viral Diarrhoea Virus (BVDV) and, in cows and heifers, for protection against transplacental infection of the fetus with BVDV. For beef cattle producers, BOVI-SHIELD GOLD BVD is for vaccination of healthy cattle to protect against viremia caused by bovine virus diarrhea (BVD) virus Types 1 and 2, and respiratory disease caused by (BVD) Types 1 and 2 viruses.

Description

ONE SHOT® BVD vaccine for cattle helps provide beef and dairy cattle with combined respiratory protection against Mannheimia haemolytica and bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) Types 1 and 2 viruses in a single dose.

When One Shot BVD is used at the same time with INFORCE™ 3 respiratory vaccine:

  1. Helps protect against bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV), infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) virus, parainfluenza 3 (PI3) virus, M. haemolytica and BVD Types 1 and 2 viruses.
  2. Helps young calves build the immunity they need prior to commingling of dairy calves and at turnout for beef calves.
  3. Helps provide a convenient and effective way to combat bovine respiratory disease (BRD).

May be administered to pregnant cows, or calves nursing pregnant cows, provided cows were vaccinated according to label directions with any Bovi-Shield GOLD FP or PregGuard GOLD FP vaccine within the past 12 months.

Calves vaccinated before 6 months of age should be revaccinated after 6 months of age or at weaning and a booster is recommended annually or whenever subsequent stress or exposure is likely. One Shot BVD Cattle Vaccine is a modified live vaccine and requires mixing with provided sterile diluent, containing adjuvant to enhance the immune response, to rehydrate the freeze-dried fraction.

Indications

Bovi-Shield GOLD BVD is for vaccination of healthy cattle to prevent viremia caused by bovine virus diarrhea (BVD) virus Types 1 and 2, and as an aid in preventing respiratory disease caused by (BVD) Types 1 and 2 viruses. When administered subcutaneously, duration of immunity has been demonstrated to be at least 9 months.

Do not use in calves nursing pregnant cows unless their dams were vaccinated within the past 12 months as described above. To help ensure safety in pregnant cattle, heifers must receive at least 2 doses of any BOVI-SHIELD GOLD FP or PREGGUARD GOLD FP vaccine with the second dose administered at least 30 days prebreeding.

Mode of action

Vaccination of healthy cattle is recommended. Aseptically rehydrate the freeze-dried component with the sterile diluent provided, mix well and administer 2 mL subcutaneously. In accordance with Beef Quality Assurance guidelines, this product should be administered in the neck region. To avoid possible maternal antibody interference with active immunization, calves vaccinated before the age of 6 months should be revaccinated after 6 months of age or at weaning.
